Final Results

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- The University of Delaware women’s golf team opened its 2017 spring season with an impressive ninth place finish this week at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic.

The Blue Hens, who fired rounds of 298 on Sunday and 296 on Monday, concluded tournament play with a 299 score on Tuesday to place ninth out of 43 teams with a three-round total of 893. Coastal Carolina claimed the team title with an 870 score, while the College of Charleston finished second at 871 and Southern Mississippi placed third at 873.

Delaware freshman Ariane Klotz carded an even par round of 72 on Tuesday on the par 72, 5,964-yard Osprey Point course, finishing the tournament with a four over par score of 72-76-72-220 to tie for 24th place.

Senior Vitoria Teixeira recorded a one over par 73 during her final round, finishing in a tie for 47th place with a nine over par 77-75-73-225. Sophomore Ashley Dingman, who fired a four over par 76, tied for 66th place with a 12 over par score of 82-70-76-228.

UD senior Grace Chua carded a 78 on Tuesday and tied for 79th place with a 13 over par 72-79-78-229 while freshman Josefina Fernandez-Davila, playing as an individual, fired a 76 during her final round and tied for 86th place with a 14 over par 75-79-76-230.

Sophomore Valentina Mueller finished in a tie for 95th at the tournament with a 15 over par score of 77-75-79-231.

Laura Fuenfstueck of the College of Charleston earned medalist honors with an eight under par 70-68-70-208, while Hee Ying Loy of East Tennessee State finished in second place two shots back.

Delaware returns to action on Mar. 6-7 when the Blue Hens compete in the North Florida Collegiate at the Jacksonville Golf and Country Club in Jacksonville, Fla.
