Blue Hens Return Home to Host Bob Hannah Invitational
NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware baseball team will kick of the 2017 home schedule this weekend when the Blue Hens welcome Rider and Delaware State for the Bob Hannah Invitational.
The three-team tournament will start Sunday morning when Rider faces off with Delaware State at 11 a.m. Game two (2:30 p.m.) will feature host Delaware facing off with Rider.
On Monday, the Blue Hens will take on Rider at 11 a.m. with Delaware State and Delaware squaring off at 2:30 p.m.
The schedule was altered due to inclement weather that worked its way into the Newark area. Originally, the Blue Hens were slated to face Delaware State and Rider twice, but will now play Delaware State only once.
Last weekend UD completed a 2-1 weekend at the Old Dominion Tournament. After dropping a tough 2-1 contest against host ODU, the Blue Hens rebounded to defeat Saint Joseph’s (10-8) and Kentucky (4-3). The wins improved Delaware to 2-5 on the season.
In the win over the Hawks, Delaware rallied from 5-0 down in the sixth to post the 10-8 victory. The Blue Hens produced two runs in the sixth and ninth innings, and three runs in the seventh and eighth.
In Sunday’s victory over Kentucky, Delaware posted four runs in their final turn at bat to defeat the SEC members 4-3. After scoring 35 runs on 36 hits in the first two games of the tournament, Delaware limited Kentucky to just three runs and nine hits.
Offensively, the Blue Hens received strong performances from seniors Jordan Glover and Doug Trimble. Trimble produced an inside-the-park home run and an RBI double for the weekend while Glover had a bases-clearing double and a sacrifice fly on Sunday.
Marinaccio produced two and two-thirds scoreless innings in two appearances, striking out five. On Sunday, the junior produced a perfect 12-pitch inning, recording the save and a pair of strikeouts.
Scouting the Foes:
