COLLEGE PARK, Md.  --   With another successful indoor season just two weeks behind them, the University of Delaware women’s track & field team will return to action Saturday when the Blue Hens open the 2017 outdoor season at the University of Maryland Invitational.

Action will get underway Saturday morning at Kehoe Track with the women’s hammer throw and women’s long jump at 10 a.m. The track events will get underway at 10:30 a.m. with the women’s 5,000 meter run. In all, 19 events will be contested among men and women.

The Blue Hens will take a contingent of 18 student-athletes to the event.

“We hope weather conditions will improve to get us on our way with all of our event groups,” said Delaware head coach Wendy McFarlane-Smith, who will begin her ninth season at the helm of the Blue Hens. “We are excited and confident that our distance runners and throwers will do a fine job in our season opener.
