PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Delaware had five crews race on Saturday against Saint Joseph’s and No. 17 ranked Penn in a non-league women's rowing tri-meet on the Schuylkill River.

The event marked the season opener for the Blue Hens.

The Blue Hens Varsity Eights "A” boat finished in second place behind Penn, posting a time of 6:48.4. The Hens were nine seconds ahead of third place Saint Joseph’s and 10 seconds behind Penn.

The Delaware Varsity Eights “B” boat finished in third place (7:17.2) behind Penn and Saint Joseph’s while the Blue Hens “C” boat also finished third (7:34.2) behind Saint Joseph’s and Penn.

Delaware also placed second in the Varsity Fours "B" race (7:55.3) and third (8:02.0) in the Varsity Fours "A" competition.

The Hens will return to action on Saturday, March 25 at the Murphy Cup in Philadelphia.
