Villanova Outlasts Delaware, 5-2
WILMINGTON, Del. – The Blue Hens men’s tennis team returned to the courts Sunday afternoon following a nearly two-week hiatus from competition by coming up just short to Villanova, 5-2, at DuPont Country Club.
Freshman Laurenz Lankes (Cologne, Germany) and sophomore co-captain Blaise Casselbury (Lititz, Pa./Lancaster Country Day School) paired for the 7-5 top flight doubles win, but the Wildcats (5-5) notched the team point with victories in No. 2 and No. 3.
Lankes garnered his first career No. 1 singles win by defeating Luis Miranda, 6-2, 4-6, 10-5.
Classmate Dominick Perez (Bethesda, Md./Gonzaga) posted the other victory on the day for Delaware (3-7) with the 6-4, 6-4 decision over Thomas Dodson in No. 5 singles.
Head Coach Pablo Montana
“Overall I’m very pleased with how we competed today. We had our chances in doubles, but couldn’t pull out the tiebreaker at No. 3. Blaise and Laurenz really stepped it up with elite doubles play at No. 1. In singles, we were right there with them until the end, but Villanova played with more confidence in the big points. Congratulations to Laurenz and Dom for pulling out big singles wins.”
