CAA Release

RICHMOND, Va.  --  For the second time this season, high-scoring University of Delaware men’s lacrosse freshman Charlie Kitchen has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week.

Kitchen, a native of Marlton, N.J. (St. Augustine Prep High School), was honored for his efforts in Delaware’s 12-7 victory over Saint Joseph’s Saturday as he netted three goals to lead the Hens to their fifth win in the last six outings.

Delaware has now had a player earn CAA weekly honors five times this year with Kitchen being named Rookie of the Week twice, Andrew Romagnoli earning Player of the Week laurels twice, and freshman Matt DeLuca being selected Rookie of the Week once.

Kitchen scored three goals vs. Saint Joseph’s to record his second hat trick of the season and also scooped up two groundballs to help the Hens snap a personal three-game losing streak to the Hawks.

Kitchen ranks No. 2 on the squad in scoring with 32 points on 21 goals and 11 assists and has scored at least two points in all nine of his games this season, a UD record. He is one of only four freshmen in the nation at the NCAA Division I level who has scored at least two points in every game this year.

In addition to Kitchen, Hofstra goalkeeper Jack Concannon and Massachusetts attackman Tyler Bogar were also honored by the CAA Monday as they shared CAA Player of the Week honors.

Delaware (6-3), which has already surpassed the season win total for both the 2015 and 2016 seasons, returns to action this Saturday, March 25, when the Hens host No. 1 ranked (Maverik/Inside Lacrosse Poll) Rutgers at 1 p.m. at Delaware Stadium.
