RICHMOND, Va. -- For the first time in his career, University of Delaware senior catcher Brian Mayer has earned Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week honors.

Mayer is the third different Blue Hen to a CAA Player/Pitcher of the week award this season, joining sophomores Nick Patten and Brandon Walter.

Mayer batted .533 (8-15) with four home runs, two doubles, six runs scored and 13 RBI during the Hens' undefeated (4-0) week.

Delaware opened the season with a 10-9 win over Penn on Wednesday and followed with a weekend sweep over CAA rival Hofstra, winning games by scores of 8-4, 17-7, and 11-4.

A native of Brick, N.J. (Brick Township High School), Mayer produced back-to-back games with two home runs, contributing six RBI on Saturday and four RBI on Sunday against Hofstra. The catcher has produced a hit in each of his last six games and raised his batting average to .375 for the season.

He shares this week's awards with UNCW freshman Zarion Sharpe (Pitcher of the Week) and Northeastern’s Scott Holzwasser (Rookie of the Week).

Delaware returns to action Tuesday afternoon at home against Saint Joseph’s at 3 p.m. at Bob Hannah Stadium.
