Delaware Concludes Tar-Heel State Swing at NC State

RALIEGH, N.C. -- The University of Delaware baseball program will conclude its longest road trip of the season this weekend at North Carolina State. The series gets underway Friday night at 6:30 p.m.

Game two is scheduled for Saturday at 6:30 p.m. while the finale is set to get underway at 1 p.m. on Sunday. 

The Blue Hens (24-18) have played seven in a row away from Bob Hannah Stadium and have not played a home game since April 18.

Live stats are available for all three-games and the entire series will be broadcasted on ACC Network Extra via WatchESPN and the WatchESPN App.

Following the three games this weekend, the Blue Hens will wrap up the 2017 regular season with home series against Colonial Athletic Association foes Towson and College of Charleston the next two weekends.

With just one more victory, Delaware head coach Jim Sherman would win his 500th game as the head coach of the Hens. Sherman won his 700th overall game earlier in the season against Wagner (3/12).

Week in Review:
The Hens' enter the weekend coming off a 1-3 week. Delaware dropped a pair of games last weekend at UNCW before dropping an extra-innings mid-week contest at Saint Joseph's on Tuesday.

Last Friday, Delaware dropped a 16-5 contest against UNCW as the Hens committed a season worst seven errors, contributing to nine unearned runs. The Hens rebounded on Saturday, defeating UNCW 5-2 after receiving five shutout innings from Ron Marinaccio and four solid innings from Burk FitzPatrick. On Sunday, the Seahawks shut down the potent Delaware attack, holding the Hens to just five hits ina  5-0 victory.

On Tuesday, the Blue Hens made the short trip to Saint Joseph's but dropped a 7-6 decision in 11 innings. Delaware got off to a quick 4-1 start behind a Calvin Scott three-run home run before the Hawks scored single runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh to tie the game at 4-4. The game stay tied until the 10th inningwhen the Hens struck for a pair of runs. However, SJU tied the game on a homer in the 10th before scoring the winning run on a sacrifice fly in the 11th inning.

Scouting the Foes:
The North Carolina State (25-20) Wolfpack enter the weekend having won five games in a row. The Pack defeated North Carolina Central and East Carolina, before sweeping Atlantic Coast Conference foe Virginia Tech.

Last week, North Carolina State infielder Joe Dunand was named Co-ACC Player of the Week for his performance as he went 9-15 with 13 RBI, eight runs scored, four home runs and four doubles.

Dunand's power explosion increased his home run season total to an ACC-best 16. The infielder was also named College Sports Madness Player of the Week and earned Collegiate Baseball's National Player of the Week honors.

The Wolfpack enter the weekend batting .273 with a solid team ERA of 3.93.

All-Time Series:
The all-time series between the Blue Hens and Wolf Pack is deadlocked at 5-5 with Delaware having won three of the last five meetings. Delaware and NC State are meeting in Raleigh for the first time since 1968 when the Hens defeated a North Carolina State team that later went to play in the College World Series.
