LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The University of Delaware will be well-represented by juniors Sarah Hillman and Liz McGroarty at the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field East Regionals this week at the University of Kentucky's Outdoor Track & Field Complex.

McGroarty (Garnet Valley HS/Glen Mills, Pa.), who earned a pair of runner-up finishes in the 1,500 meters at the Colonial Athletic Association and ECAC championships earlier this month, will begin action in the 1,500 meter preliminaries on Thursday, May 25 at 5:30 p.m. Should she place among the top five finishers in her heat or have one of the next four top times, she would advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday, May 27, at 6:30 p.m.

Hillman (Polytech/Dover, Del.), who captured the CAA discus title and was third at the ECAC meet earlier this month, will compete in the discus championship on Friday, May 26, at 2 p.m.

Should Hillman finish among the top 12 on Saturday, she would advance to the national championships to be held June 7-10 at the University of Oregon in Eugene.

McGroarty (at left/Photo by Jeff Fannon), who ranks No. 3 all-time in Delaware history in the 1,500 meters with a personal best of 4:24.54, has enjoyed an outstanding spring outdoor season in which she earned All-East honors by placing second in both the 1,500 meters and 4 x 800 meter relay at the ECAC Championships May 12-14 at Princeton.

She also was the runner-up in the 1,500 meters and third in the 800 meters at the CAA Championships May 5-6 at Delaware.

Hillman has ranked among the nation's top discus throwers all season long and her UD school-record distance of 186-feet, 2-inches ranks fourth in the field at the NCAA East Regionals and No. 9 nationally. She also holds the UD school record in the shot put at 47-1.5.

In addition to capturing the discus title at the CAA Championships and being named the meet's Outstanding Field Performer, Hilllman also earned All-East honors by placing third in the discus and was also 24th in the shot put at the ECAC meet at Princeton. She has won three meet titles this season and also placed ninth in the discus at the Penn Relays in April.
