RICHMOND, Va. -- The University of Delaware women's soccer team was projected to finish eighth in the Colonial Athletic Association, the conference announced Friday afternoon.

"In an always competitive CAA, the season is sure to be exciting regardless of where everyone is ranked,” new Blue Hens head coach Mike Barroqueiro said. “I'm excited to see how we stack up by the end of the year."

Defending CAA Champions, Northeastern, was the unanimous preseason top selection (81 points), followed by William & Mary (69 points).

Drexel and James Madison (56 points) were both selected to finish third, while Hofstra (48 points) and UNCW (46 points) were selected fifth and sixth respectively.

College of Charleston (36 points) were slotted seventh, while Delaware and Elon shared the eighth slot with 20 points. Towson (18 points) was slotted 10th.

Hannah Lopiccolo (Northeastern) was selected as the Preseason Player of the Year.

The Blue Hens, who defeated Loyola (Md.) 1-0 in the lone exhibition game, begin the 'Barroqueiro Era' on Aug. 18 at home against George Washington. Barroqueiro was introduced as the new head coach of the Blue Hens women’s soccer program back on Jan. 18. UD returns nine players from last year's team including projected starting goalie Kailyn Rekos and Dani Kabat. Rekos led the CAA in saves per game (6.11/games) a season ago, while Kabat scored three goals and was named to the CAA All-Rookie Team a season ago.
