  • TRYING AGAIN: Friday afternoons match with George Washington was canceled. After moving the game up to 5 p.m. in order to beat the rain, the Colonials and Blue Hens decided around 7:30 p.m. to cancel the game. As a result, Sunday will mark the 2017 season opener for the Blue Hens.
  • NEW ERA: For only the second time in the program's nearly 30-year history, Delaware will have a new head coach. Tomorrow marks the debut of Mike Barroqueirowho joins the Blue Hens after spending the last four seasons as the associate head coach at North Carolina State. The New Jersey native spent two seasons (2011-12) as the head coach of the Iona College women’s soccer program before his stint at North Carolina State.
  • FRESHMAN FUN: Tomorrow afternoon’s contest also marks the collegiate debuts for eight Blue Hens. Attacking midfielder/forward Dominique Davisforward Riley Dixonmidfielder Gabby Johnsondefensive midfielders Sydney Gilmore and Olivia Schuckdefender Maria Gentiledefender Helen Dyer and attacking midfielders/forwards Lizzie Weimer and Sabrina Kunimoto will all don Delaware uniforms for the first time.

  • ON THE MEND: Redshirt sophomore Riley Curtin and redshirt senior Andrea Gunderson are both scheduled to return from serious injuries a season ago. Both Curtin and Gunderson missed the entire 2016 season after suffering the injuries in preseason training.
  • PROJECTED EIGHTH: Delaware was projected to finish eighth this season in the Colonial Athletic Association in the CAA Preseason Coaches' Poll. Six teams will qualify for the end of the season CAA Tournament where an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament will be awarded. Delaware last made the CAA Tournament back in 2015.
  • LOGGING TIME:Senior goalkeeper Kailyn Rekos is currently fourth in all-time minutes played in Delaware history and needs just 327 more minutes to pass Breanna Stemler. Rekos is currently two starts away from taking over third place on the all-time starts list in program history. 


  • Delaware is 1-5-2 all-time against Villanova, with the first matchup occurring during the 1996 season. Delaware is winless in its last four matchups with the Wildcats.
  • Sunday afternoon marks the second straight year that Delaware and ‘Nova will meet in the season opener.
  • A season ago Villanova defeated Delaware 3-2 at Higgins Soccer Complex. Rising sophomores Jillian Vassallo and Dani Kabat each scored a goal, while Rekos made 10 saves for Delaware.
