COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Blue Hens continued play Saturday with 10 victories at the Bedford Cup, hosted by the University of Maryland at the College Park Tennis Center.
In single action, both sophomore Brooke Pilkington (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate) and junior Sara Komer (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) advanced to Sunday’s quarterfinals action. Pilkington defeated Georgetown’s Sydney Goodson, 6-3, 7-6, while Komer posted the 7-5, 6-4 win over Virginia Tech’s Shene Disbergen.
Multiple Blue Hens also advanced in the singles consolation draw as Delaware collected six victories in the bracket. Senior Arielle Shuren (Montebello, N.Y./Suffern) and freshman Sarah Whited (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank W. Cox) each registered two triumphs while juniors Sarah Hall (West Orange, N.J./Mount Saint Dominic Academy) and Draga Sabotic (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) each tallied a win apiece.
In doubles competition, Hall and Komer will compete in Sunday’s quarterfinals action following a 6-3 decision over Georgetown’s Sara Swift and Drew Spinosa. In the consolation draw, Shuren and Whited defeated Coppin State’s Tanna Nita and Alja Hmjic, 6-0.
