CHANDLER, Ariz. – After outscoring opponents by an outstanding 13-0 margin this past weekend, Delaware moved up one spot to No. 7 in this week’s Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Coaches Poll.
The Blue Hens (8-3) received 832 points after opening CAA play with a 4-0 victory at Drexel before returning home to defeat Lafayette, 9-0.
Connecticut maintained its unbeaten record at 11-0 to accumulate 1,222 points and 46 first place votes to remain at the No. 1 spot in the poll.
The rest of the top five includes No. 2 Duke (9-1), No. 3 Virginia (10-1), No. 4 Michigan (9-2) and No. 5 Penn State (10-2). The bottom half of the top ten consists of No. 6 North Carolina (10-2), No. 8 Boston College (8-4), No. 9 Syracuse (9-3) and No. 10 Northwestern (8-4).
The next Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll will be announced on Tuesday, October 9. The poll is voted on by NFHCA member coaches, and has no bearing on selection to the 2017 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship.
Delaware continues league action Sunday by hosting No. 16 James Madison (7-3, 0-0 CAA) at 1 p.m. in a rematch of the past three CAA Tournament Championship games. Admission at Fred P. Rullo Stadium is free and open to the public. The first 200 fans in attendance will receive free Delaware socks.
