PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Blue Hens scored early, but the Hawks responded and held on as No. 8 Delaware fell to No. 21 Saint Joseph’s, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at Ellen Ryan Field.
Junior Greta Nauck (Krefeld, Germany/Gymnasium am Moltekplatz) posted the lone goal of the afternoon for the Hens, the 56th of her career and 12th of the season, in the 11th minute.
The Hawks (13-3) recorded the equalizer in the 39th minute before Emily Henry tipped in the game-winner off of a penalty corner with less than two minutes remaining on the game clock.
Senior Emmeline Oltmans (Baarn, The Netherlands/Het Baarnsch Lyceum) collected three saves while junior Kiki Bink (Wageningen, The Netherlands/RSG Pantarijn) registered her second straight game with a defensive save.
“In order to put ourselves in the position to play good Delaware Hockey, we need a team approach and team work. We didn’t go about our business that way today and we created our own difficulties, which resulted in an unnecessary game outcome. Congrats to Saint Joseph’s for their outstanding team play and team fight. Their performance and mindset will be refreshing for us to reflect on with a game coming up tomorrow.”
