RICHMOND, Va. – University of Delaware senior women’s cross country standout Liz McGroarty has earned a spot on the All-Colonial Athletic Association Cross Country team announced by the league this week.

McGroarty, a nursing major from Glen Mills, Pa. (Great Valley High School), was one of 12 student-athletes honored from a vote of the league head coaches and was the lone Blue Hen selected to the all-star team.

The senior standout competed in six races during the 2017 season and led the Blue Hens in five of them, including a fifth place finish at the CAA Championships on Oct. 28 at Elon. Her fifth place finish was the best for a UD runner since the 2005 season.

McGroarty won the Delaware Invitational back in September and also placed sixth at the Elon Invitational, 12th at the Louisville Pre-Nationals, and 34th at the NCAA Regionals at Lehigh.

James Madison’s Nora Raher was named CAA Runner of the Year, William & Mary’s Lauren Finikiotis was named CAA Rookie of the Year, and JMU’s Dave Rinker was named CAA Coach of the Year.

McGroarty was joined on the All-CAA team by Elon’s Melissa Anastasakis, Brigid Brennan, and Carolea Geraniotis; William & Mary’s Molly Applegate and Finikiotis; JMU’s Erica Jackson, Emily Murphy, Carol Strock, Caitlin Swanson, and Raher; and Northeastern’s Louiza Wise.
