ELKTON, Md. – The Blue Hens picked up their first victory of the season Sunday by defeating Saint Joseph’s, 7-0, at Elkton Indoor Tennis.
Delaware (1-3) opened the match by sweeping the team doubles point. Senior Arielle Shuren and freshman Sarah Whited kicked things off with the 6-0 win over Maureen Devlin and Katherine Devlin in the third slot.
Sophomore Brooke Pilkington and junior Sara Komer clinched the match in the top flight with a 6-1 decision against Amanda Nava and Isis Gill-Reid while junior Sarah Hall and senior Amanda Studnicki topped Laura Gomez and Lourdes Sprinckmoller, 6-2.
In singles play, Hall cruised to the 6-0, 6-0 victory against Gill-Reid in the fourth flight while Komer followed posted the 6-2, 6-1 decision over M. Devlin in No. 2 singles.
Pilkington captured the fourth point of the day for the Hens by picking up the 6-4, 6-3 top-flight singles win.
Junior Annie Jaskulski earned the 7-5, 6-2 victory versus Gomez in No. 3 singles while Whited dropped Sprinckmoller, 6-1, 6-2 in the fifth slot and junior Draga Sabotic collected the 6-0, 6-3 win over K. Devlin. in the sixth spot.
