RICHMOND, Va. – Two of the key cogs of Saturday’s thrilling win for the University of Delaware men’s lacrosse program were honored on Tuesday.

Senior Will Hirschmann and freshman Peter St. Geme were named the CAA Player and the CAA Rookie of the Week, respectively, after the duo combined for seven goals and four assists in the Blue Hens’ 16-12 win over Mount St. Mary’s in the season opener this past Saturday.

It marks the third time since the start of the last season that Delaware has swept the weekly accolades.

Hirschmann took home his second career CAA Player of the Week honor after a career-best four goals and seven points in the victory.

The senior captain had a hand in seven of Delaware’s 16 goals on the day, including three of the four during the Blue Hens’ four unanswered goals that mounted the comeback in the final two minutes of the first half.

In his collegiate debut, St. Geme was outstanding, scoring the first goal of the game and then two more times to help Delaware secure the victory. It marked the second straight season that a Blue Hen freshman had a hat trick in the opener (Charlie Kitchen in 2017).

The Blue Hens return to action on Saturday when they host NJIT at Delaware Stadium. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
