HEN SCRATCHINGS  🐔

• THE WEEK THAT WAS: Delaware is coming off a 0-3 week after dropping all three games at Florida Atlantic. UD dropped the series opener 7-2, before falling 2-1 and 6-3 in the final two games. Pitching was the story again for Delaware, as the Hens allowed just five earned runs in the final 22 innings of the series.

• RAIN, RAIN GO AWAY: The schedule for this weekend’s series against the Hornets has been altered. Originally scheduled to play Friday afternoon (2:30 p.m.), Saturday afternoon (1:00 p.m.) and Sunday afternoon (1:00 p.m.). Instead, the Hens and their in-state rival will play the series opener Saturday and a pair of games Sunday (12/3 p.m.). The first two games will be played as normal, with Sunday’s nightcap being played as a seven-inning game.

• HOME COOKIN’: The Blue Hens were dominant last season at Bob Hannah Stadium. Delaware went 22-4 at home last season including a 10-2 CAA mark. Delaware outscored its opponents by 148 runs last season at home.

• RUNNING WITH THE BULL(PEN): The Blue Hens bullpen has been strong the last two weekends combined to allow just five runs over 22.2 innings of work (1.69 ERA)

• NO ‘IV’ NEEDED: Freshman Billy Sullivan IV has been extremely impressive in his first two collegiate starts. Sullivan has struck out 10 batters over 9.2 innings. The St. Mark’s product has held opponents to a .194 average and has allowed just a pair of unearned runs.

• BEHIND ENEMY LINES: Delaware State enters the weekend with an identical 2-4 record. The Hornets opened the season at Savanah State dropped two-out-of-three. Delaware State opened its home schedule last Friday and Monday afternoons when they hosted Rider. Much like the season-opening series, Delaware St dropped a pair of games last weekend. Sophomore infielder Jared Gillis leads the Hornets so far this season having hit .348 through the season’s first six games. DSU has received good performances from starters Lane DeLeon (1.64 ERA) and Sean McGrath (1.80 ERA)
