THE WEEK THAT WAS: The Blue Hens enter this week with a record of 20-17, having won six of their last nine games. This past week the Blue Hens went 3-2, winning a game against Saint Joseph’s and a pair of games against CAA rival James Madison. Delaware began the week with a 9-4 loss against Lafayette in the Liberty Bell Classic Championship game. The Hens quickly rebounded Wednesday defeating Saint Joseph’s 8-5. In that game freshman Jordan Hutchins went 3-5 with 3 RBI, while Joey Haass earned his second victory of the season. On Friday, junior Nick Patten went 3-4 with a home run in Delaware’s 5-1 victory. Kyle Hinton threw 6.1 strong innings, allowing just a solo home run. Saturday, the Blue Hens defeated the Dukes 7-6 behind another strong day from Kevin Mohollen who went 4-5 with a pair of runs scored. Freshman Billy Sullivan IV threw six innings but earned a no-decision. Sunday, the Hens were blanked by the Dukes 6-0.

FRESH ACCLAIM: Delaware freshman Jordan Hutchins was named CAA Rookie of the Week the conference announced Monday. The Dover native hit .474 (9-19) with at least one hit in all five games. The Delaware native went 2-4 in Delaware’s LBC game Tuesday before turning in the most productive day of his young career Wednesday against Saint Joseph’s, where he went 3-5 with three RBI. The infielder recorded three multiple hit games including a 2-4 performance Friday where he drove in a pair of runs. Hutchins is Delaware’s second CAA Rookie of the Week honoree this season and is the third Delaware honoree in the last two weeks.

MIDWEEK MANIA: The Blue Hens are currently 5-0 in mid-week afternoon contests this season. The Hens went 4-4 a season ago in mid-week games. Delaware defeated Maryland 7-1 back on 3/8 and completed the series sweep with a 7-6 victory on 3/13. The Hens earned their third-midweek victory of the season at La Salle and the fourth-midweek victory at Lehigh. Delaware’s fifth victory in the mid-week was last Wednesday’s 8-5 victory over Saint Joseph’s.
