RICHMOND, Va. – University of Delaware freshman guard Ryan Allen was named the CAA Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week on Tuesday.

Allen (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic) averaged 19.0 points during the Blue Hens’ two wins last week, leading the team in scoring both games. He scored a season-high 24 points, the most by a Blue Hen this season, and knocked down six three-pointers in Thursday’s 97-96 overtime win over Cornell.

Allen then added 14 points, including four second half triples, in Delaware’s 58-56 triumph at UNCW on Saturday. The freshman guard also added four rebounds, four assists and four steals on the week.

Allen, who has reached double figures in eight of the last nine games, currently leads the team and ranks fifth in the CAA by knocking down 2.8 three-pointers per game. He also is seventh in the league with 33.9 minutes played per game, ninth with a 41.3 three-point percentage, and 16th with 13.5 points per game.

The Blue Hens have now earned three consecutive conference Rookie of the Week honors, as Kevin Anderson won the award on Dec. 18 and Dec. 26. Allen also captured the award on Dec. 4.

Delaware (8-6, 1-0 CAA), which has won four consecutive games, faces Charleston tonight at 7 p.m. before hosting William & Mary and UNCW this weekend.
