FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Blue Hens will be making their first postseason appearance since 2014 as Delaware was selected Monday evening to compete in the Postseason WNIT.
The Hens, who are 19-12 overall on the season under first-year head coach Natasha Adair, will travel to Washington, D.C. to take on Georgetown at 7 p.m. Friday.
“We’re excited to keep our season going,” remarked Adair, who previously served as the head coach at Georgetown from 2014-17. “Our team is still hungry and wanting for more! This postseason opportunity gives us another chance to compete for a championship. Blue Hen Nation, let’s get loUD!”
Delaware is 3-4 all-time against the Hoyas and has never faced GU in postseason play.
UD finished fifth in the Colonial Athletic Association with an 11-7 record and advanced to the CAA Tournament semifinals before falling to top-seeded Drexel, 58-53, in overtime.
Georgetown is 15-15 on the year and fell to eventual BIG EAST Tournament champion DePaul in the tournament’s semifinals.
Tickets for Friday's contest are $5 each and can be purchased through Georgetown's Athletic Ticket Office, online or at the gate.
The Blue Hens are one of three CAA teams to earn a trip to the Postseason WNIT as Drexel (26-7) earned the automatic qualifying bid and James Madison (21-10) was selected as an at-large pick.
First-round action begins Wednesday, March 14 and continues through Friday, March 16. Round 2 games take place March 17-20; Round 3 games are March 21-23, Round 4 runs March 24-26, and the semifinals are March 28-29. The championship game will be held at 3 p.m. ET on March 31, and televised on CBS Sports Network.
