NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team dropped a three-set match to Yale on Friday night at the Lee Amphitheater as the Blue Hens opened play at the Yale Invitational.

The Bulldogs, playing their season opener, took the contest by set scores of 25-18, 25-17, 25-14. Delaware, which opened its season last weekend with three losses at the WVU Invitational, fell to 0-4 on the year.

Maria Bellinger slammed a match-best 13 kills while adding eight digs and three blocks for the Blue Hens, while Brooke Robertson chipped in with four kills and led the team with a career-high 10 digs. Bailey Pearlman also blasted four kills on the night, while Abby Skryd handed out 17 assists and Maddie Judge posted eight digs.

Kathryn Attar led a balanced Yale attack with seven kills against just one error, while Kelsey Crawford dished out 17 assists and Kate Swanson notched 15 digs.

The opening set was tied 9-9 early on, before the Bulldogs took the next five points and led the rest of the stanza. After Yale captured the second set, the Bulldogs raced out to an 8-1 lead in the third frame and never looked back.

Head Coach Sara Matthews
"We had a tough match tonight. Yale is a very well-coached, scrappy team. We have to continue to get better at the little things and put together longer strings of good plays. We need to trust the process of our system and continue to focus on getting better point by point, set by set. We have to bounce back tomorrow with two great matches."
