ITHACA, N.Y. – Blue Hen senior Kieran Purcell leads the field while the University of Delaware men’s golf team is tied for seventh place following Saturday’s action at the Cornell Invitational.

Purcell fired a five under par 67-70-137 on the par 71, 6,904-yard Robert Trent Jones Golf Course, and holds a three-shot lead heading into Sunday’s final round. Five players at the invitational carded a two under par 140 on Saturday to end the day tied for second place.

Purcell was even par through five holes during his opening round, but birdied the next three holes to get to three under. Following eight consecutive pars, he birdied 17 before closing his round with a par. Purcell then posted three birdies and 13 pars to shoot one under on his second round.

Christian Chapman shot a seven over par 74-75-149 to end the day tied for 41st place, while Jack Melville is tied for 54th place after carding a nine over par 78-73-151. Jack Gianniny is also tied for 54th place with a nine over par 73-78-151, while Blaine Lafferty fired a 10 over par 75-77-152 to finish the day tied for 62nd place.

The Blue Hens carded team rounds of 289 and 295 on Saturday, tying for seventh place out of 16 squads with a 584 total. Yale leads the field with a 572 score, while Dartmouth is second at 572 and Temple sits in third place at 573.

The final round of the invitational will begin Sunday at 8 a.m. from the first and 10th tees.
