VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Hens continued action Saturday at the Seventh Annual Villanova Invitational with four wins.
Delaware defeated Saint Joseph’s, 2-1, while falling to Villanova, 2-1 (twice) and La Salle (3-0) in the weekend format of playing one doubles and two singles matches against one opponent.
Freshman Justice Jones (Laurel, Md./JTCC School) paired with sophomore Curran Verma (Gaithersburg, Md./Laurel Springs) to open the day with a 7-6 (6) victory over SJU’s Mike Santa Luica and Sam Sauter. Verma followed with a 6-3, 6-2 singles decision against Sauter to give the Hens the 2-1 win.
The duo improved to 3-0 on the season by topping Villanova’s Alastair Hurry and Matt Phelps, 6-2.
Sophomore Luis Marcano (Kralendijk, Bonaire/Sagemont (Fla.)) also collected a win for the Blue Hens as he fought out the 6-3, 7-6 (6) victory versus Daniel Martinez (Villanova).
