LEWISBURG, Pa. – Five University of Delaware track & field student-athletes captured first place finishes to lead the Blue Hens to a second place team finish at the Gulden Invitational hosted by Bucknell University Saturday at Gerhard Fieldhouse.

Ashley Bailey won a pole vault title for the second straight week with a jump of 12-feet, 3.5-inches, Carly Pettipaw won the 500 meters (1:16.82), Jeanette Bendolph captured the 1,000 meters (2:55.21), Liz McGroarty posted a win in the 3,000 meters (10:01.48), and Sarah Hillman bested the field to win the shot put competition (45-1.75).

In all, Delaware recorded 17 top five finishes.

“The team did a fine job today,” said Delaware head coach Wendy McFarlane-Smith. “I am happy with the performance so far this season and better days are still ahead.”

Host Bucknell won the team title with 193 points to edge Delaware, which recorded 113 points. Shippensburg was third in the seven-team field followed by East Stroudsburg, St. Francis (Pa.), Mt. St. Mary’s, and La Salle.

Bailey, a junior, won her second pole vault title of the year and the sixth indoor meet crown of her career while Hillman won her 10th career indoor shot put championship to highlight the field events.

Also for the Hens, Isis Pinkney was second in the 60 meter dash (7.82), the 4 x 800 meter relay team of Angie Spadaccini, Madeline Berman, Susanna Weir, and McGroarty was second (9:28.12), the 4 x 400m relay team of Sydni Stovall, London Freeland, Pettipaw, and Michaela Meyer was second (3:57.55); Olivia Goncerz was third in the 60 meter hurdles (9.10); Valerie Romero was third in the mile (5:12.51); Andriene Rose was third in the 200 meters (26.24); and Mackenzie Jones was third in the 3,000 meters (10:27.15).

Delaware will return to action Jan. 26 when the Blue Hens return to the New York City Armory to take part in the Dr. Sander Invitational.
