MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – The University of Delaware softball team picked up its first win of the season by posting a 5-1 victory over Albany Sunday morning on the final day of the Madeira Beach Invitational.

The Blue Hens (1-8) took control from the start by scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Leanna Gearhart led off with a walk, and after she stole two bases and Reyna de Jesus walked, Mariah Kondravy lined an RBI single to right to put Delaware on the board.

de Jesus then crossed the plate on an RBI groundout by Anna Steinmetz, before Giovanna Kolofer singled home Kondravy to make it a 3-0 game.

Kondravy clubbed a solo home run in the bottom of the third, while Kolofer then walked, stole second and scored on an infield single by Mattie Nuccio to give the Blue Hens a five-run cushion.

The Great Danes (1-3) scored their lone run of the contest in the top of the fifth when Katie Falotico singled home McKenzie Bump.

Kondravy finished 2 for 3 with two RBI and two runs scored to pace the UD attack, while five Blue Hens added a hit apiece. Sarah Piening picked up her first victory of the year after allowing one run on two hits in five innings of work, before Jordan Cargile fired two scoreless frames of relief.
