NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Blaine Lafferty and RJ Wren each finished among the top 10 individuals while the University of Delaware men’s golf squad placed fifth in the team standings as the Blue Hens opened their 2018 spring season this week at the Bash at the Beach tournament.

Delaware carded its third straight sub-300 round during Tuesday’s final round, finishing fifth out of nine teams with a 297-295-289-881 score. Newberry College captured the team title with an 853 score, while Charleston Southern finished one shot back at 854 and Longwood was third at 860.

Lafferty fired an even par 71 on Tuesday on the par 71, 6,741-yard course at The Surf Golf and Beach Club, as he tied for seventh place with a one over par 69-74-71-214. Wren, playing as an individual, shot a one over par 72 during his final round to tie for ninth place with a three over par 73-71-72-216.

Kieran Purcell tied for 13th place at the invitational with a five over par 73-71-74-218 while Christian Chapman, who fired the lowest round of the day by a Blue Hen with a two under par 69, tied for 24th place at 78-75-69-222, nine over par.

Jack Gianniny carded a 16 over par 77-77-75-229 to tie for 41st place at the tournament, while Jack Melville recorded his second consecutive round of 75 after getting disqualified in his first round.

Carlos Leandro of Newberry and Jacques Wilson of Charleston Southern shared medalist honors as both players finished at six under par.

The Blue Hens return to action on Mar. 12-13 when they compete in the USF Invitational at the Tampa Golf & Country Club in Tampa, Fla.
