Two Home Meets Highlight 2014 University of Delaware Women’s Cross Country Schedule
NEWARK, Del. -- Nine competitions, including two home meets at White Clay Creek State Park, highlight the 2014 University of Delaware women’s cross country schedule announced on Friday.
Third-year head coach Wendy McFarlane will welcome back a solid nucleus from last year’s squad that placed third at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships, fourth at the ECAC regionals, won the UD Blue & Gold Invitational, and finished as runner-up at both the Delaware Invitational and Towson Invitational meets.
“We look forward to the upcoming cross country season,” said McFarlane, who also led the Blue Hen women’s outdoor track & field team to the CAA title in May. “Our schedule this season will give us enough time to prepare, recover, and be a contender for a top three team finish at the conference championship. We graduated a few key athletes but we look forward to rebuilding and performing at a high level with our returning class and newcomers. We added nine freshmen to the cross country roster and we are eager to see how their season unfolds as we look to build on our successes.”
Delaware will serve as host on two occasions in 2014 as the Blue Hens will welcome top area men’s and women’s teams to the Delaware Invitational on Sept. 13 and to the UD Blue & Gold Invitational on Oct. 11. Both meets will again take place at Delaware’s home course at White Clay Creek State Park off Route 896 in Newark.
The Blue Hens will open the season on Aug. 29 at the Lehigh Invitational and two weeks later will host the Delaware Invitational. The team will take on Towson in a dual meet on Sept. 19 to close out the month of competition.
The month of October will include three competitions as the Hens will head to the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh on Oct. 4, host the Blue & Gold Invitational on Oct. 11, and head to the Princeton Invitational on Oct. 18.
Action during the final month of the season in November includes the CAA Championships Nov. 1 at Northeastern in Boston, the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals at Penn State on Nov. 14, and the ECAC Championships on Nov. 22 at the Bronx, N.Y.
