NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware women’s cross country squad, which was ranked No. 12 in the first weekly U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Mid-Atlantic Region poll announced earlier this week, will host the annual Delaware Invitational Saturday at White Clay Creek.
The Blue Hens, led by first-year head coach Wendy McFarlane, will welcome teams from Bloomfield (men and women), Cairn (m/w), Delaware Track Club (m/w), Delaware Tech (w), DeSales (w), Gettysburg (m/w), Holy Family (m/w), Hood (m/w), Immaculata (m/w), Stockton (m/w), and Towson (w).
The men’s eight-kilometer race will get underway at 10:30 a.m. followed by the women’s race at 11:15 a.m.
Parking fees of $3 for in-state cars and $6 for out of state cars will be charged.
The Blue Hens will be making their third appearance of the season after claiming the team title at the Lehigh Invitational on Aug. 31 and placing sixth at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoes Invitational at Penn State on Sept. 8.
Delaware junior Lindsay Prettyman (at right) won the individual title at the Lehigh Invitational while sophomore Nicole Daly was the Hens’ top finisher at Penn State with a 19th place showing.
In the first weekly Mid-Atlantic Region poll, Georgetown was at No. 1 followed by Villanova, Penn State, West Virginia, Princeton, Navy, La Salle, Penn, Bucknell, Duquesne, Maryland, Delaware, Saint Joseph’s, American, and Loyola.
