NEWARK, Del. -- Eight events, including two home meets at White Clay Creek State Park, highlight the 2012 University of Delaware women’s cross country schedule announced by head coach Jim Fischer Friday.
The Blue Hens will begin their 31st season overall and fifth under Fischer, who will welcome back 15 letterwinners from last year’s squad that posted six top 10 team finishes, including a fifth place showing at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships.
Delaware will be led by junior Lindsay Prettyman, who led the Blue Hens in seven of the eight races last season, including a 16th place finish at the CAA Championships and top 10 finishes at the Delaware Invitational, Delaware Blue & Gold Invitational, and ECAC Championships.
The Blue Hens will compete on their home course twice during the fall as Delaware hosts the annual Delaware Invitational on Sept. 15 and the Blue & Gold Invitational on Oct. 13. Although the fields for either meet are not set yet, among the teams competing in one or both of the home meets in the past have been Mississippi, Maryland, George Mason, Towson, Seton Hall, Wilmington, Delaware State, Temple, American, Saint Joseph’s, and Mt. St. Mary’s.
The season will open on Sept. 1 with a road meet still be determined and will follow with competition at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational at Penn State on Sept. 8, the Delaware Invitational at White Clay Creek State Park on Sept. 15, and the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh on Sept. 28.
The Hens will be off the first weekend of October but will return to action Oct. 13 to host the Blue & Gold Invitational at White Clay Creek State Park followed by the Colonial Athletic Association Championships Oct. 27 at William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va.
The November schedule will include competition at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals at Penn State on Nov. 9 and the annual ECAC Championships Nov. 17 at Van Cortlandt State Park in New York City.
