RICHMOND, Va. – After posting the game-winning goal this past weekend against both William & Mary and James Madison, the Colonial Athletic Association recognized University of Delaware field hockey Michaela Patzner (Rosenheim, Germany) as the league’s Player of the Week.

In two CAA wins, Patzner collected three goals for six points for the Blue Hens.  She scored the game-winning goal in the 68th minute in a thrilling 3-2 victory over James Madison Sunday.

Patzner also posted four points on two goals in Friday’s 4-0 shutout against William & Mary.

“I’m excited for ‘Ela’ as it confirms that her improved work rate and additional training moments during the past couple of weeks not only paid off for her and our team, but are now also being recognized by the CAA,” remarked head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof, who is in his third season with the Hens.  “CAA honors are always great to receive as a program as it underlines the improved performance of our entire team.  When we play as one, stay in the moment and execute our game plan, we can play some fantastic Delaware hockey.  Ela’s honor will provide the team additional energy to prepare for this coming weekend.”

Patzner currently leads UD with 10 goals and two assists for 22 points.  She holds 17 career goals, a mark good for second on the active roster.

The sophomore is ranked third in the conference with 2.00 points (21st NCAA) and 0.91 goals (14th NCAA) per contest.  She previously earned Co-Player of the Week honors for the week of Sept. 17.

Northeastern freshman Natalie Stewart was tabbed the CAA Rookie of the Week.

Delaware remains home for Homecoming and “Family/Parents’” Weekend as the Blue Hens host CAA foe Towson Friday at 7 p.m. followed by defending national champion and ninth-ranked Princeton Sunday at 1 p.m. at Rullo Stadium.
