Women Lead Blue Hens Swimming & Diving in Final Day at the CAA Pod Meet

Harrisonburg, Va. – In the final day of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) pod meet at Savage Natatorium, the University of Delaware women’s swimming team earned one team win over UNC Wilmington (188-165) but fell to William & Mary (198-148.5) and James Madison (243-110). The Delaware men dropped both dual meets to William & Mary (227-117) and UNCW (115).

The Blue Hen women have now won three of its five dual meets of the season while the men fall to 1-3 in dual meet action.

Freshman Annie Nunes led the Delaware women for the second consecutive weekend while Cory Camp earned two top finishes for the men.

Nunes finished the 200 breaststroke event in 2:23.83 earning a first place finish over William & Mary and third place finishes over JMU and UNCW. Nunes registered two more top-finishes on the day earning wins in the 200 IM (2:08.99) over JMU and William & Mary. The rookie’s time in the 200 IM placed her second against UNCW.

Nunes was also a part of the Delaware 200 Medley Relay (1:47.87) squad that notched a first place finished over UNCW and second place finishes over JMU and W&M. Nunes served as the second leg of the relay team as she competed with Alyssa Sanders, Tori Gillespie and Morgan Whyte.

Camp earned two first place finishes for the men in the 500 Freestyle (4:43.52) against UNCW and W&M.

Junior Maggie Tracy also brought home a first place finish for the Blue Hen women this morning. Tracy’s 53.77 finish in the 100 Freestyle earned her a the top performance against UNCW along with the second best time against the Tribe and a third place finish versus JMU.

Senior Shea Solt tallied a meet best time against the Seahawks in the 500 Freestyle (5:11.94) for Delaware.

The Blue Hen 400 Freestyle Relay squad finished atop the podium against UNCW with a time of 3:34.54. The relay squad consisted of Maggie Tracy, Brittany Lazear, Whyte and Dominique Montoya. The squad’s 3:34.54 finish placed them second against the Dukes and William & Mary.

Montoya earned another second place finish throughout the day, but this time against UNCW. Montoya finished the 100 Freestyle in 53.87 while teammate Mary Kay Harris fished in 54.06 for the third place finish.

Seniors Gillespie and Kaitlin Wolla each tallied second and third place finishes in the 100 Butterfly against James Madison and UNCW. Gillespie finished the event in 58.90 while Wolla finished in 59.09.

Lastly, for the Delaware women, Sanders earned two individual third place finishes and a single second place finish for the Hens. Sanders placed third in the 200 IM (2:12.10) against JMU and UNCW and placed second versus William & Mary.

The Delaware men’s 200 Medley Relay, Tim Ware, Corey Beinhart, Cole Clark and Trevor Dearstyne, finished the event in 1:36.53 earning a second place finish against the Tribe and third versus UNCW.

Clark and Ware each earned two individual top three finishes throughout the day. Clark finished second and third in the 100 Butterfly (51.22) against W&M and UNCW as Ware brought home two third place finishes in the 200 Backstroke (1:55.58).

The Blue Hen 400 Freestyle relay squad placed third against both the Tribe and Seahawks finishing in 3:11.68. The relay team was composed of Alex Hillsley, Everett Albert, Matt Marquez and Sihan Liu.

Hillsley, Liu and Albert each earned one more top finish in the pod meet. Hillsley finished third against UNCW in the 200 IM (1:58.27) with Albert finishing second in the same event (1:57.82). Liu placed second in the 100 Freestyle (47.97) against the Seahawks.

Lastly, for the Delaware men, Alex Tooley took home a second and third place finish in the 500 Freestlye (4:46.05) versus W&M and UNCW.

The Delaware men and women return to action Saturday, Nov. 9 when the Blue Hens face LaSalle and Rider at La Salle’s Kirk Pool in Philadelphia, Pa.
