RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Delaware field hockey team picked up their third straight Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week honors Tuesday as the league honored freshman Meghan Winesett (Centreville, Va.) following her performances this past week.

Winesett collected two goals in the Hens’ 4-3 victory at Bucknell Sunday.  The forward is currently second on the team behind sophomore Michaela Patzner (Rosenheim, Germany) with four goals and two assists for 10 points on the season.

“I am thrilled for Meghan to earn this honor,” remarked Delaware head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof.  “She is a true team player, enjoys her growth as a freshman on our team and has the qualities to create scoring opportunities.  As she further develops and gets adjusted to playing at the collegiate level, we are excited to see what more she will contribute to her own and our team development and success opportunities this season.”

Previous Delaware/CAA Rookie of the Week honors were passed out to Esmée Peet (Zeewolde, The Netherlands) and Maddie O’Beirne (Vienna, Va.).

“In order to have a realistic opportunity to achieve success, the team needs a number of players that it can rely on in order to perform at the level that is needed in order to achieve the desired results,” Van de Kerkhof commented.  “Our entire freshmen group has further raised the standards and expectations of our program this year and is in the position to help our team pursue the goal of competing for a CAA Championship.  With this talented young class, the future of our program looks promising and should be bright.”

UD is currently 6-2 on the year and next travel to Monmouth to take on the Hawks at 1 p.m. Sunday.
