University of Delaware Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country Squads Coordinating Shoe Drive this Weekend
NEWARK, Del. -- Members of the University of Delaware women’s cross country and track & field teams are joining together to make a difference this Homecoming weekend as they are coordinating an inaugural shoe drive.
Members of the team are asking Blue Hens fans and all members of the community to donate gently used athletic shoes and soccer shoes to donate to the MORE Foundation, an organization that changes the lives of others in Africa. The shoes are sold in major metro areas to vendors who in turn create jobs and help improve the quality of life in cities. The vast majority of Africans cannot afford new shoes. The proceeds from the sale of the shoes provides training and tools to the poorest rural farmers.
Fans will have the opportunity to donate at seven different sites this weekend, beginning Friday with donation sites at the Trabant University Center Kiosk Spirit Station from 12 noon until 2 p.m.; at White Clay Creek State Park as part of the University of Delaware Blue-Gold High School cross country team from 2:30 to 4 p.m.; at the UD Pep Rally at the Laird Campus from 4-5:30 p.m.; and at the Carpenter Sports Building Main Lobby from 10 am until 12 noon.
On Saturday, fans can donate at the west main entrance and in the fan zone as part of the University of Delaware football game vs. Albany at Delaware Stadium from 10 am until 12 noon; at White Clay Creek State Park as part of the UD Blue-Gold Collegiate Invitational from 9:30 am until 12 noon; and at the Carpenter Sports Building Main Lobby from 10 am until 12 noon.
