Gorenflo Wins Pole Vault, Prettyman Sets School 5,000m Record for Delaware at Day 2 of Colonial Relays
Gorenflo, a junior from Plymouth Meeting, Pa. (Plymouth-Whitemarsh HS), captured her second career meet title as she won the University Division pole vault competition with a career-best leap of 11-feet, 7 3/4-inches to earn the Hens’ lone individual title.
Prettyman, a native of Newark, Del. (St. Mark’s HS) who set the school record in the 1,500 meters last week at the Raleigh Relays, broke another record Friday as she placed ninth in the Seeded Division of the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:48.18. Her time broke the UD mark of 16:53.0 set by Sandy Gibney way back in 1980. Her time also qualified Prettyman for the ECAC Championships in May at Princeton.
In addition for the Hens, Latoya James placed second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.20 in the preliminaries to advance to the finals on Saturday and Katrina Steenkamer was second in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:51.11, marking the second best time in school history. Steekamer’s time also met the ECAC qualifying standard.
Also for the Hens, Betsy Erlanger was fourth in the 800 meters (2:16.30), Alana Pantale was fourth in the Championship Division of the discus throw (135-7), Katie Deinert was fourth in the 10,000 meters (ECAC qualifying time of 37:30.58), Amira Idris was fifth in the Championship long jump (18-3), Shannon Kelly was sixth in the 5,000 meters (18:11.12), Alexis Gligor was seventh in the pole vault (10-2), Mellissa Mazzo was seventh in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (11:20.63), Tyler Jackson was eighth in the 200 meters (25.07), and Courtney Sniscak was eighth in the Championship discus (127-1).
