Delaware Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Distance Medley Relay Team Wins Race, Sets School Record at Penn Relays
The Delaware team of Emily Gispert, Shanel Dickens, Betsy Erlanger, and Lindsay Prettyman ran to a Delaware-record time of 11:35.35 to win the competition.
The time broke the school record of 11:38.36 set last season by Prettyman, Breanna Nicholson, Meredith Steenkamer, and Gispert and was good enough to beat the likes of competitors such as Northern Illinois, Yale, Penn, Clemson, Georgia Tech, James Madison, and South Carolina in the race.
“The ladies did a fine job at the Penn Relays,” said Delaware head coach Wendy McFarlane. “We are very excited and proud of the successes this season. Another school record for Lindsay Prettyman and there is still more to come as she strives to rewrite her own records. I am also very pleased with the work that Coach Tim Brock has done with the distance team this season.”
The distance medley relay team was one of three Delaware relays squads that competed on Thursday at the annual meet held at the University of Pennsylvania’s Franklin Field.
The 4 x 400 meter relay team of Michelle Simmons, Breanna Nicholson, Chelsi Campbell, and Kelley Donovan ran to a time of 3:51.11 to finish fourth in its heat and 40th overall. District of Columbia won the heat with a time of 3:47.18 while the University of Texas was the overall winner with a clocking of 3:31.93.
Also for the Blue Hens, the 4 x 100 meter relay squad of Latoya James, Amira Idris, Paige Thompson-Charles, and Tyler Jackson recorded a time of 48.11 to place seventh in its heat and 54th overall. South Carolina won the heat in 45.65 while Texas A&M was the overall event winner with a time of 44.09.
Delaware will continue action Saturday when the Blue Hens host the Delaware Classic at Stuart and Suzanne Grant Stadium at 8:30 a.m.
