NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware will host nearly 1,000 athletes from the nearby high school and college ranks Saturday (Apr. 25) when the Blue Hens host the Delaware Classic Outdoor Track & Field Meet and Stuart and Suzanne Grant Stadium.

Athletes will take part in 28 field events and 52 track events to highlight the day of competition. The field events will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the track events set to start at 10 a.m.

The event will be just the second meet held at Grant Stadium since the track underwent extensive renovations during the fall and spring.

The Delaware women's track & field team will be among 12 collegiate teams on hand and will be joined by Coppin State, Delaware State, George Mason, Georgian Court, Harcum Junior College,  Loyola (Md.), UMES, Towson, UMBC, Valley Forge Military Academy, and Villanova.

Club teams scheduled to compete are New Balance, Delaware Track Club, Philly Master's, Shore Athleic Club, The Professionals, TNT Racing Club, and the Villanova Track Club.

High school teams expected to compete are Caesar Rodney, Cape Henlopen, Charter School of Wilmington, Delaware Military Academy, Dover, Elkton (Md.), Howard, Linganore (Md.), Methacton (Pa.), Middletown, Moyer Academy, Mt. Pleasant, Newark, Newark Charter, Smyrna, and St. Elizabeth's.
