NEWARK, Del.  --  University of Delaware rowing standouts Denise Cirelli, Jamie Noce, and Angela Quinn have been honored by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) as National Scholar-Athletes.

The Blue Hen trio was among over 400 student-athletes honored nationally as NCAA Division I CRCA National Scholar-Athletes. To be eligible, student-athletes must have at least sophomore eligibility, rowed in at least 75 percent of their team’s spring races, and hold a minimum 3.5 or higher grade point average.

“We are proud of Denise, Jamie, and Angela for their outstanding efforts in the classroom, not just this year, but throughout their UD careers,” said Delaware head coach Kevin Gruber. “The CRCA Scholar-Athlete criteria is tough, so Denise, Jamie, and Angela are part of a pretty select group of collegiate rowers.     They are great representatives of the UD Rowing program.”

Cirelli, a junior from Wayne, Pa. (Baldwin School), was a member of the Blue Hen Varsity Eights crew all season and led the team to a fourth place finish at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships and a berth in the semifinals at the Dad Vail Regatta. A member of the National College Athlete Honor Society, she was the team’s representative on the CAA All-Academic Team announced as part of the CAA Championships. She carries a 3.57 grade point average as an exercise science major.

Noce, a junior from Baldwinsville, N.Y. (Baker HS),  was also a member of the Blue Hen Varsity Eights crew all season, helping the team to a fourth place finish at the CAA Championships. Also a member of the National College Athlete Honor Society, she carries a 3.60 grade point average as a fine arts major.

Quinn, a senior from Aldan, Pa. (Archbishop Prendergast HS), was also a member of the Blue Hen Varsity Eights crew all season, helping the team to a fourth place finish at the CAA Championships. She also led the Second Varsity Eights crew to a fifth place finish in the third final at the Knecht Cup.

Also a member of the National College Athlete Honor Society, Quinn was honored earlier this month with the UD Sport Management Myles Brand Award.

The award is presented to an outstanding sport management student who in and out of the classroom, potentially on the playing field, in the community and in their professional activities, displays the ideals championed by the NCAA in its core purpose - to govern competition in a fair, safe, equitable, and sportsmanlike manner, and to integrate intercollegiate athletics into higher education so that the educational experience of the student is paramount. She carries a 3.52 grade point average as a sport management major.
