NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. -- The University of Delaware women’s golf team showed marked improvement throughout the weekend as the Blue Hens opened their 2013 spring season by finishing fifth at the Purdue Mount Vintage Invitational.

Delaware recorded a 350 team score during the opening round, but fired a 333 during the second round and a 324 during the final round of the weekend to place fifth with a three-round total of 1,007. Coastal Carolina captured the team title with a 910 score, edging Iowa State which finished at 911. The host Boilermakers came in third at 913, followed by Augusta State at 932, the Blue Hens, and IUPUI at 1,008.

UD sophomore Amanda Terzian (at right) fired a 26 over par 87-78-77 on the par 72 Chester-Vintage Nines Course, finishing in 19th place in the individual standings. Freshman Vimonthip Benjasupawan finished 25th after she carded a 37 over par score of 87-84-82-253.

Blue Hen freshman Nathalie Filler tied for 29th place as she finished with a 43 over par score of 87-88-84-259, while classmate Kayleigh Reed carded a 49 over par 98-86-81-265 to place 32nd in her UD debut. Senior Frida Nilsson finished in 33rd place after she posted a 58 over par score of 89-85-97-271.

Casey Kennedy of Augusta State earned medalist honors after she carded a three over par 74-72-73-219, while Laura Gonzalez of Purdue and Chonlada Chayanun of Iowa State each finished four shots back.

The Blue Hens are back in action on March 25-26 when they compete in the C&F Bank Intercollegiate at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va.
