NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware women’s golf head coach Patty Post has announced the signings of high school standouts Kayleigh Reed and Nathalie Filler who will join the Blue Hen program in the fall of 2012.

Reed, a native of Virginia Beach, Va. (Cape Henry Collegiate School), has been a three-year letterwinner on the boy’s team at Cape Henry Collegiate. A team captain during the 2010-11 season, she earned medalist honors three times and led the squad with a 74.9 stroke average. Reed, a member of the National Society of High School Scholars who plans on majoring in business at UD, posted five top-five finishes during her junior year.

This July Reed (at right) won the Cahoon Plantation Junior Championship and finished ninth at the 42nd VSGA Junior Girl’s Championships, while she captured the Kingsmill CJGT Junior Championship last December.

“Kayleigh is a solid striker of the ball,” said Post. “She hits it a good distance which will be a big advantage for her when she gets to college.”

Filler, a Bloomfield, Conn. native (Westminster School), is the captain of the Westminster School boy’s varsity team. She finished no lower than sixth place in 14 consecutive state and regional junior tournaments between August, 2009 and June, 2011. Filler, who plans on majoring in art at Delaware, won the Hartford Golf Club 2010 Women’s Championship and the 2011 Stan Trojanowski Northern Junior with a 72-71 this August. She also participated in the 2011 USGA Junior Girl’s Championships this year.

“Nathalie has some really solid competitive experience and some low numbers that she will be bringing with her to the University of Delaware,” Post commented. “I believe Kayleigh and Nathalie are the type of motivated players who will help elevate the program another notch. We very much look forward to their arrival on campus next fall.”
