Delaware Women’s Golfers Lead Field, Klotz Second After First Day of Rutgers Invitational

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- The University of Delaware women’s golf team currently sits in first place while freshman Ariane Klotz is second in the individual standings following Friday’s action at the season-opening Rutgers Invitational.
The Blue Hens carded team rounds of 313 and 298 on Friday to finish the day with a 611 total, seven shots ahead of the second place Scarlet Knights at 618. Sacred Heart sits in third place with a 628 score, followed by Albany at 629 and Fairleigh Dickinson at 635. Delaware is looking to repeat as Rutgers Invitational team champions, as the Blue Hens posted a 10-shot victory at last year’s tournament.
Klotz, playing as an individual, fired a four over par 75-73-148 during her Blue Hen debut on the par 72, 6,043-yard Rutgers Golf Course to finish the day in second place. She trails only Emily Mills of Rutgers, who holds a three-shot lead after recording a one over par 74-71-145 during her day.
UD senior Vitoria Teixeira is tied for fourth place with a seven over par 77-74-151, while Valentina Mueller carded a nine over par 77-76-153 to end the day tied for eighth place. Josefina Fernandez-Davila sits in 10th place with a 10 over par 80-74-154 while Grace Chua, who shot an 81-74-155, and Ashley Dingman, who carded a 79-76-155, are each tied for 11th place at 11 over par. Kylie Greulich, also playing as an individual, fired a 30 over par 85-89-174 to finish the day tied for 58th place.
The invitational concludes on Saturday with the third and final round.
