Blue Hens Open Season By Successfully Defending Rutgers Invitational Team Title

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- The University of Delaware women’s golf team opened its 2016 fall season this weekend by winning the Rutgers Invitational team title for the second consecutive year, as the Blue Hens posted a dominating 15-shot victory at the tournament.
Delaware, which carded rounds of 313 and 298 on Friday, fired a 308 score on Saturday to finish with a three-round total of 919 and finish first among the 12 teams at the invitational. The host Scarlet Knights placed second with a 934 score, followed by St. John’s at 937, Sacred Heart at 942 and Albany at 943.
Blue Hen freshman Ariane Klotz, playing as an individual, recorded a seven over par 79 during her final round on the par 72, 6,043-yard Rutgers Golf Course to tie for fourth place during her UD debut with an 11 over par 75-73-79-227.
UD senior Vitoria Teixeira tied for sixth place at the tournament with a 13 over par 77-74-78-229, while sophomore Valentina Mueller fired a 14 over par 77-76-77-230 to finish in eighth place. Senior Grace Chua, who carded an 81-74-76-231 during the weekend, and freshman Josefina Fernandez-Davila, who shot an 80-74-77-231, each tied for ninth place at 15 over par.
Sophomore Ashley Dingman placed 16th with her 19 over par score of 79-76-80-235 while freshman Kylie Greulich, playing as an individual, finished 58th with a 43 over par 85-89-85-259.
“I’m very proud of the team this week,” said Blue Hen head coach Patty Post. “It’s always nice to start the season off with a win. This week gave us a good barometer of where we are and what we can improve upon before next week.”
Delaware returns to action on Sept. 24-25 when the Blue Hens compete in the Penny State Nittany Lion Invitational in State College, Pa.
