NEW YORK  --  Senior Lindsay Prettyman posted a fourth place finish in the mile run and then joined Emily Gispert, Tyler Jackson, and Jess Olsen for a fourth place finish in the distance medley relay to lead the University of Delaware women’s indoor track & field team at the University at Albany Great Dane Classic Friday night at the New York Armory.

Delaware collected 16 top 20 finishes on the day and finished in ninth place in the final team standings. Connecticut won the team title with 117 points followed by Villanova, George Mason, and Albany in the 19-team field.

“The Great Dane Classic was a big meet, attracting teams from different conferences,” said Delaware head coach Wendy McFarlane. “It was good for us to compete in such a large arena this early in the season. This exposure will help us identify our strengths and weaknesses.  We had some good showings and personal-best performances. I am confident our ladies will get better as we prepare to be champions.”

Prettyman covered the mile in 4:56.90 while the distance medley relay team finished with a time of 12:30.55. The Blue Hens also received a fourth place finish from Alexandra Carroll, who placed fourth in the 500 meters in 1:17.84.

Also for the Blue Hens, Katrina Steenkamer was eighth in the 3,000 meters (10:13.79), Kelsey Evancho was eighth in the high jump (5-3), the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Carroll, Breanna Nicholson, Chelsi Campbell, and Kelley Donovan was 11th in 3:57.50, Michele Lambert was 12th in the 3,000 meters (10:25.40), Aretah Ettarh finished 14th in the shot put (36-9), and Betsy Erlanger (mile in 5:20.48) and Haley Gorenflo (10-10 leap in pole vault) each posted 15th place finishes.

Delaware will continue action next Saturday, Jan. 25, at the Princeton (N.J.) Tiger Open.
