University of Delaware Women’s Track & Field Squad Opens 2014 Indoor Season Thursday at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md.   --  The University of Delaware women’s indoor track & field squad will open its 2014 season this Thursday, Jan. 9, when the Blue Hens take part in the Navy Women’s Track & Field Meet.

The meet, which will include teams from Delaware, Navy, American, Mt. St. Mary’s, James Madison, Maryland-Eastern Shore, and Virginia Commonwealth, will begin at 4:15 p.m. at Wesley Brown Field House.

Head coach Wendy McFarlane, who begins her sixth season at the helm, will take over 40 student-athletes to the season-opening meet to compete in 15 events.

The Blue Hens are coming off an outstanding 2013 season in which they competed in 13 different events, posted a 4-1 dual record, and finished 14th as a team at the season-ending ECAC Indoor Championships.

Delaware is led by the return of standouts Lindsay Prettyman, Michelle Lambert, and Emily Gispert in the distance events, Latoya James in the hurdles and sprints, Paige Morris, Amira Idris, and Kelsey Evancho in the jumps, and Chelsi Campbell and Toresha Foster in the sprints, Courtney Markow in the pole vault, and Alana Pantale in the throws.

Prettyman (1,000 meters), James (60m hurdles), and Morris (triple jump) each earned All-East honors a year ago.
