ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Latoya James and Lindsay Prettyman (at right) each captured first place finishes to lead the University of Delaware to four dual meet victories at the Navy Open Indoor Track & Field Meet Saturday at the Wesley Brown Field House.

James won the 60 meter hurdles in a time 8.62 seconds and Prettyman won the 1,000 meters with a career-best clocking of 2:54.94 as the Blue Hens (4-1) posted dual wins of 280-216 over James Madison, 294-191 over Maryland-Eastern Shore, 337-161 over Mt. St. Mary’s, and 270-255 over VCU. Host Navy defeated the Blue Hens by a score of 301-261. Delaware posted 33 top 10 finishes in the six-team competition.

The meet was the Hens’ first dual meet scoring competition in five seasons for head coach Wendy McFarlane and the first since the 1997-98 season when Delaware went 5-7 in dual meet competition. Every meet the Hens have competed in since 1997-98 was scored as a team finish.

Prettyman and James each won for the second straight week as Prettyman won the mile and James captured the 55 meter hurdles at last week’s season-opening Delaware Invitational at the Delaware Field House.

Finishing second for the Blue Hen women were Michele Lambert in the mile (5:11.56), Katrina Steenkamer in the 3,000 meters (10:12.92), Kelsey Evancho in the high jump (5-5), and Amira Idris in the triple jump (39-1 1/4).

Placing third for Delaware were Meredith Steenkamer in the 1,000 meters (3:05.42), Toresha Foster in the high jump (5-3), Idris in the long jump (18-2 1/4), and Paige Morris in the triple jump (38-7 3/4).

Foster was also fourth in the 4 x 400 meter relay, joining Kelley Donovan, Prettyman, and Sydney Shepherd to post a time of 3:58.82 while Morris was also fifth in the long jump with a leap of 17-2 3/4.

Delaware will return to action next Saturday when the Hens travel to the University of Maryland Invitational at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex in Landover, Md.
