NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware women recorded six first place finishes, including two wins each by Nijah Dupiche and Toresha Foster, to highlight Delaware’s own Thomson Invitational indoor track & field meet Saturday at the Delaware Field House.
The non-scoring meet included nearly 30 men’s and women’s teams from every division of collegiate track and field. Delaware recorded 41 top 10 finishes overall in a successful day.
Dupiche and Foster were the lone double winners of the meet as the two teamed with Breanna Nicholson and Chelsi Campbell to win the 4 x 400 meter relay in a time of 4:00.0 while Dupiche added a first place finish in the 400 meters (59.68) and Foster captured the 200 meters (25.71).
Also taking home first place finishes for the Hens were Latoya James (top right) in the 60 meter hurdles (8.70), Lindsay Prettyman (at left) in the mile run (5:01.59), Shanel Dickens in the 500 meters (1:18.86), and Michelle Wasserman in the 800 meters (2:21.31).
The Hens also produced eight second place finishes led by Alana Pantale (below right) in both the shot put (41-10) and weight throw (49-2 1/2), Emily Gispert in the mile (5:13.26) and the 4 x 800 meter relay (9:46.37), Paige Morris in the triple jump (36-11 1/2), Michele Lambert in the 3,000 meters (10:20.66), Nicole Rittman in the 5,000 meters (18:42.52), and Kelsey Evancho in the high jump (5-5). Dickens, Meredith Steenkamer, and Alexandra Carroll joined Gispert in the 4 x 800 meter relay.
Third place finishes were recorded by Carroll in the 500 meters (1:21.75), Steenkamer in the 1,000 meters (3:06.98), and Katrina Steenkamer in the mile (5:13.40). Foster was also fourth in the high jump (5-1), James was fourth in the 60 meter dash (7.98), and Campbell was fourth in the 400 meters (1:00.91).
Delaware will continue action next week when the Hens take part in both the Armor Collegiate Invitational in New York City and at the John Covert Classic at Lehigh in Bethlehem Feb. 1-2.
