NEWARK, Del. – Blue Hen freshman Lisa Stacevicz, sophomore Jessica Grisler, senior Lara Andrews, and freshman Shelby Jones were each honored as the University of Delaware softball squad handed out its team awards last week.

Stacevicz was named the team’s Most Valuable Player, Grisler was selected Offensive Player of the Year, Andrews was picked Defensive Player of the Year, and Jones earned the Blue Hen Award.

Stacevicz (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove HS) was selected the squad’s MVP after starting games at five different positions and ranking among the team leaders in every offensive category. A CAA All-Rookie Team selection, she appeared in 54 games while starting 50 this season, including the last 28 contests at shortstop. Stacevicz led the Blue Hens with 13 doubles on the year, while she tied for the team lead along with Andrews with 28 RBI. Her .313 batting average, 47 hits and 23 runs scored were each good for third on the squad, while her 13 doubles are tied for the fourth most in a UD single season. Stacevicz had three hits and three RBI against Norfolk State and La Salle, and added 11 two-hit games during the year.

Grisler (Sacramento Calif./Foothill HS) started all but two games for the Blue Hens this season while serving as the team’s leadoff hitter, and earned second team All-CAA honors. She tied for the conference lead with 69 hits this year, the second highest UD single season total and five shy of the school record. Grisler also ranked fourth in the CAA with a .365 batting average including a .419 mark in league contests, and ranked second in the conference with four triples. Additionally she set a Blue Hen record by scoring 39 runs this season, and was third on the squad with 10 doubles. Grisler recorded multiple hits in 22 games on the season, and tied for the team lead with 10 stolen bases.

Andrews (Wellington, New Zealand/Sacred Heart College HS) started all 57 games at third base this season and started every game of her three-year career in Newark. She tied for the team lead with 28 RBI and four home runs, while ranking second with 29 runs scored, 57 hits, and 11 doubles. Andrews batted .313 during the campaign, working 14 walks on the season while striking out just 13 times. Defensively, Andrews led the Blue Hens with 101 assists while making 96 putouts, and posted a .934 fielding percentage.

Andrews ended her Blue Hen career tied for fifth in school history with nine home runs, tied for ninth with 25 doubles, 10th with 68 RBI, and 14th with 133 hits.

Jones (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro) earned the Blue Hen Award which honors strong work ethic, coachability and a positive attitude. A CAA All-Rookie Team and CAA All-Tournament Team pick, she enjoyed an outstanding freshman campaign for Delaware by ranking fourth on the team with 19 runs batted in. Jones posted a .301 batting average and tied Andrews for the team lead by blasting four home runs, while adding 34 hits and 23 runs scored on the season.

Delaware recently completed a highly successful 2013 season that saw the Blue Hens advance to the CAA Tournament for the third consecutive year. UD finished with 35 wins, one shy of the single season record, while the Blue Hens’ 12 conference wins are also second most in a season. Delaware posted one of the top offensive seasons in school history, setting UD single season records with 235 runs, 427 hits and 72 doubles. Additionally, the squad’s 20 home runs and 61 stolen bases are second most in a season.
