WILMINGTON, N.C. -- The University of Delaware softball team returns to Colonial Athletic Association play this weekend for a three-game series with UNCW at Bozeman Field.

The Blue Hens and Seahawks are slated to play a 12 noon doubleheader on Saturday and a 12 noon single game on Sunday, although the schedule could change due to inclement weather in the Wilmington area.

Delaware enters the weekend with a 9-15 overall record, and the Blue Hens are 1-2 in the CAA following last weekend’s league opening series against the College of Charleston. UD is coming off Thursday’s 5-3 win at Penn, as Giovanna Kolofer delivered a two-run single while Jessica Grisler blasted a solo home run.

The Seahawks are an even 15-15 heading into the weekend, including a 2-1 conference mark after taking two of three games at Drexel last weekend.

Grisler, who has started in rightfield and batted leadoff during every game this season, leads Delaware with 29 hits, 15 runs scored, four doubles, three triples, 12 RBI and a .372 batting average this season. Kolofer has used a six-game hitting streak to increase her average to .342, while fellow rookie Danielle Wissinger is hitting .400 on the season.

Kelly Lupton is 3-4 with a team-best 2.54 earned run average in the circle for the Blue Hens, while freshman Carolyn Szymanski has earned a team-best five victories.

Brittany Gamby paces UNCW with a .338 batting average, 27 hits, 21 runs scored and eight stolen bases, while Nelia Chamblee is hitting .325 and leads the squad with 19 RBI. Casey Rowland is 7-6 with a 2.33 ERA for the Seahawks, while Peyton Jordan is 6-8 with a 3.16 earned run average.

Delaware leads the all-time series with UNCW, 23-10, and the Blue Hens have taken 10 of the last 12 meetings over the past four seasons. Last year UD closed the regular season with a three-game sweep of the Seahawks in Newark, allowing just four runs during the weekend.
