Blue Hen Men's Golfers Slip To 24th Place After Second Day of Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- The University of Delaware men’s golf squad improved its team score by three shots on Monday but slipped to 24th place following the second day of the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate hosted by William & Mary.

The Blue Hens opened the tournament with a 310 score on Sunday, before carding a 307 on Monday for a two-round total of 617. That score puts Delaware in 24th place out of 27 teams at the invitational, which concludes on Tuesday. Texas Tech leads the team standings with a 566 score, while Eastern Michigan sits in second place with a 574 total.

Blue Hen senior Dan Costenbader carded a seven over par 77 on Monday on the par 70, 6,765-yard River Course at Kingsmill Resort, finishing the day tied for 60th place in the individual standings with an 11 over par 74-77-151. Costenbader birdied the fifth and 18th holes during his second round while adding eight pars.

UD sophomore Kyle Martin also fired a 77 during his second round of the invitational, and is tied for 77th place with his two-round total of 76-77-153, 13 over par. Martin posted his lone birdie of the day on 18, and also recorded 10 pars on Monday.

Fellow sophomore Colin McKenna had the best round of the day by a Blue Hen, as he carded a six over par 76 and is tied for 98th place with a 15 over par 79-76-155. McKenna’s only birdie on Monday came on 11, but he also made a team-best 11 pars during the round.

Freshman Marc Oliveri fired a seven over par 77, and enters Tuesday’s round tied for 123rd place at 84-77-161, 21 over par. Oliveri birdied the first and 17th holes on Monday, to go with eight pars. Junior Fraser Graham fired his second straight 81 on Monday, and is tied for 127th place with a 22 over par score of 81-81-162. Graham birdied the ninth hole during his second round, and also made six pars.

Ryan Rettberg of Radford holds a two-shot lead with a two-round total of 69-67-136, four under par.
