NEWARK, Del. -- Blue Hen men’s golf head coach Mike Keogh has announced that sophomore Colin McKenna has earned the University of Delaware Charlie Horn Grinder Award for the 2013-14 season.

McKenna, a native of Greensboro, N.C., joined the Blue Hens during the winter and made an immediate impact during the 2014 spring season. He appeared in all but one tournament during the spring, ranking third on the team with a 77.69 average round.

McKenna led the Blue Hens by tying for eighth place at the CAA Championships on Apr. 25-27 with a 76-75-72-233, and was also Delaware’s top finisher by placing 32nd at the Fairleigh Dickinson Invitational on Apr. 13-14. His final round of 72 at the conference meet was his lowest of the spring.

The Grinder Award is presented by former Blue Hens standout golfer and program contributor Charlie Horn. Charlie was a three-year letterwinner for head coach Scotty Duncan in 1971-75, and served as co-captain of the 1975 squad that paced second at the Eastern Championships.

McKenna is the eighth Blue Hen to earn the Grinder Award, which was established following the 2006-07 season.
